I’m still formulating some thoughts on my presentation approach.  I’m leaning towards doing our own version of a “Tweetchat” as my actual presentation rather than go the standard presentation route.  Communicating key points about socialTV in the form of 10 questions in which the audience can participate directly by answering via Twitter.  There’s no wrong or right answer, everyone  on Twitter contributes to the overall conversation, as well as, in the room.

Example:

Using such hashtags as #smbyeg #socialtv we can encourage other social tv curious/enthusiasts to join in, probably from the East coast primarily…

Everyone can answer on their own if they choose, again using the hashtags for the tweetchat…

In between each question and answer I’ll fill in details, and my thoughts with images and other goodies to keep things interesting.  After all, more than just being the eye candy, I’ve got a job to do.

The audience members in the room who are not on Twitter still get to participate directly by being there, using the microphone if they choose when I open the floor up to comments.

Also, as everyone who’s ever been to a Social Media Breakfast in Edmonton knows, there are prizes offered up, and everyone in attendance get’s a chance to win one of 3 or 4 great prizes available.  In the past, this has usually been in the form a an on the fly quiz by the presenter.  This of course, falls to me this time around. 

I must honestly say at this moment I’m stuck, and could sure use some help on how to make the prize giveaways unique…I suppose we could have people guess the color of each other’s underwear…on second thought…any suggestions?

All in all, I’ve got a Prezi nearly ready to go if we decide not to go the Tweetchat route, but I like pushing things out of my comfort zone and that of the audience whenever possible and this relaxed, social media savvy crowd may just be the right formula…

Social Media Breakfast Edmonton #13 tickets here while they last. 

The debate between closing and maintaining the Edmonton City Centre Airport (YXD) has heated up as of late.  With City Councilors set to make a decision on July 8, opinion is still widely divided between the two view points.

With that in mind, fusedlogic will be hosting the “Great Airport Debate” at our studio in Sherwood Park.  We currently have Mack Male (creator of notmyairport.ca) and Dave MacLean (creator of saveourairport.ca) lined up to continue a discussion they began last week, but were unable to continue due to time restraints.  Well, we don’t have any of those here.  As well, we may be adding a few more guests to sit on the discussion panel – we’ll update this post as soon as any are confirmed.

Tune in to fusedlogic.tv at 7:00 pm MST this Monday.  There will be a chat room set up to allow viewers to engage in their own discussion and be involved with the main show.

There was some online discussion about the city’s choice to release the information in .pdf form instead of the more accessible .csv format.  While .pdf is probably more than sufficient enough for most people, check out links to the .csv versions below.

The one thing that the .pdf versions lacked were any pretty graphs.  As an accountant, a pretty graph is about the only way I can express my deep-rooted love for spreadsheets, and as such, have included some for you to enjoy below.

First up, we have a breakdown of the percentage of population by age and by year.  Note that these numbers become significantly altered when we include those who did not report their age, as 2008 saw a disproportionate number of people choose to remain ageless.
That disclaimer aside, it’s interesting to see age groups shift through the demographic spectrum.

Next up is a breakdown of population by Ward.  As you can see, Ward 5 is the largest – tho not by much.

Here’s a look at the population in each Ward broken up by Gender.  As you can see, in all but two wards, the men outnumber the women! I wouldn’t have guessed.

Lastly, I thought it would be interesting to look at how each Ward is broken up between people who own their home and those who are renting.
